A-Z: Sucker Punch

yep, another one of my dd’s favorite movies  🙂

This movie is an action fantasy and is kinda dark, but, I have to say, I really liked it.  It was full of action and it really made you think…especially those who have been in abusive situations and tried to cope with it by retreating into themselves.

Sucker Punch stars Emily Browning as Babydoll, the young girl who is abused by her stepfather and is thrown into a mental institute.  Her stepfather (Gerard Plunkett) wants her to be lobotomized so she can’t tell the truth of how her sister died.  Blue Jones (Oscar Isaac), one of the asylum’s orderlies, is bribed by Babydoll’s stepfather into forging the signature of the asylum’s psychiatrist, Dr. Vera Gorski (Carla Gugino).

Babydoll is scheduled for the lobotomy in five days and she retreats into an alternate reality with four other female inmates, Amber (Jamie Chung), Blondie (Vanessa Hudgens), Rocket (Jena Malone), and Rocket’s sister, Sweet Pea (Abbie Cornish), planning their escape.  The lines between reality and fantasy blur as Babydoll and the others struggle to find the five items they will need to escape.  Babydoll uses sexy dances as means of distraction so the other girls can find the needed items.  During the dances, her fantasies mirror reality.  During the last fantasy, trying to protect her sister, Rocket is killed by the cook.  Amber and Blondie are killed by Blue who wants to make “examples” of them.  Babydoll sacrifices herself so that Sweet Pea can escape the asylum.

  1. This movie really surprised me because I was almost certain I was not going to like it when I heard about it. But I ended up loving it so much that it became a new favorite. 🙂
