A-Z: Queen of the Damned

Ahhhh…one of my dd’s favorite movies 🙂

Queen of the Damned is yes,…another vampire movie!! lol…but, again, it’s different from the others I’ve mentioned recently.  Like Interview with a Vampire, Queen of the Damned was written by Anne Rice and features vampire Lestat (Stuart Townsend).  This time though, Lestat is a rock star whose music awakens the vampire Queen Akasha (Aaliyah).

Lestat is a lead singer for a metal band and has achieved international success.  He is planning a live concert in Death Valley but is warned by another vampire, Marius (Vincent Perez) that the other vampires won’t tolerate his flamboyant behavior.

His lyrics intrigue Jesse (Marguerite Moreau) a paranormal researcher for the Talamasca.  Jesse has a theory that Lestat is really a vampire, which David (Paul McGann), her mentor, confirms and tells her that Lestat had been made by Marius.

Jesse follows Lestat to the concert where he and Marius are attacked by a mob of angry vampires.  Akasha bursts thru the stage and disappears with Lestat.  He drinks her blood which empowers him.  Together, they confront the Ancient Vampires who were planning on killing her, at the home of Maharet (Lena Olin), Jesse’s aunt, who to Jesse’s surprise, is an Ancient Vampire, Mael (Christian Manon) Pandora (Claudia Black) and Armand (Matthew Newton).

Akasha orders Lestat to kill Jesse and he obeys, but then he turns and starts to drain Akasha’s blood with help from the Ancients.  Mael and Pandora are killed by Akasha’s power and Armand is almost killed but is saved as her powers are drained.  Maharet makes them all stop and she drinks the last of Akasha’s blood, becoming a marble ‘statue’.  Lestat cradles Jesse in his arms, makes her drink his blood, making her a vampire too.
